Thomson Gale Announces Release of Dictionary of Literary Biography, Volume 327

Newest Title Focuses on Sixteenth-Century French Writers

FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich, Oct. 31, 2006 – Thomson Gale, part of the Thomson Corporation (NYSE: TOC; TSX: TOC), announces the release of the Dictionary of Literary Biography Volume 327: Sixteenth-Century French Writers. The Dictionary of Literary Biography series, produced by Bruccoli Clark Layman, Inc. and published by Thomson Gale, is now in its 28th year.

Sixteenth-Century French Writers includes entries on 48 writers who made significant contributions to culture in an era of intellectual ferment marked by the Renaissance and the Reformation, by discoveries abroad and religious wars at home. The authors covered include scholars such as Guillaume Budé, Jacques Lefèvre d’ É taples and Jacques Amyot; the evangelist Jean Calvin; poets Clément Marot, Maurice Scève, Joachim du Bellay, Pierre de Ronsard and François de Malherbe; playwrights Estienne Jodelle, Robert Garnier and Jean de la Taille; and two literary giants, the novelist François Rabelais and the essayist Michel de Montaigne. The volume also features essays on remarkable women writers such as Marguerite de Navarre, the sister of King François I; the novelist Hélisenne de Crenne; the mother-and-daughter collaborators known as the Dames des Roches; and the poet Louise Labé.

Each essay is written by an authority in the field and is illustrated with images documenting the life and career of the subject. The volume also includes a general introduction by the editor, Megan Conway, of Louisiana State University-Shreveport.
