Valuation Database Features Information from Online and Land-Based Sources
FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich., Oct. 5, 2006 – Thomson Gale, part of the Thomson Corporation (NYSE: TOC; TSX: TOC), announced that its recently released Price It! Antiques & Collectibles database now includes information from land-based auction houses.
Thanks to a partnership with GoAntiques, Inc., which has just signed contracts with Phillips de Pury & Company, Stanley Gibbons Auctions, Leslie Hindman Auctioneers and Rago Arts and Auction Center, Price It! Antiques & Collectibles is the only product that offers land-based and online auction pricing . These bricks-and-mortar auction houses join a host of online sites, such as eBay, GoAntiques and TIAS.com, to provide users with specialized valuation data on sales of art, collectibles and antiques.
Phillips de Pury & Company, founded in 1796, is one of the world’s largest auction houses. They have conducted sales for many notable historical figures, including Marie Antoinette, Beau Brummel and Napoleon. They also are the only auction house to have held a sale in Buckingham Palace.
From a fledgling auction house holding its first auction in October 1901, Stanley Gibbons Auctions has grown into one of the largest and most respected auction houses in the United Kingdom. They handled the ‘Mey’ collection of Great Britain's King George VI and The ‘Romano’ collection of King Edward VII, as well as the Ashanti’ Gold Coast collection which realized £85,000 and included rare items of postal history.
Rago Arts and Auction Center was established by David Rago, a leading dealer in American art pottery and an appraiser for the hit PBS television show Antiques Roadshow, in 1995. Rago Arts & Auction Center is one of the foremost auction houses in the country specializing in decorative arts, furnishings, fine art and jewelry.
Leslie Hindman Auctioneers has been one of the Midwest’s leading fine art auctioneers since 1982. In 1997, the firm was acquired by Sotheby’s and the founder, Leslie Hindman, went on to host two highly-rated, nationally-televised programs on Home and Garden Television (HGTV), ‘At the Auction with Leslie Hindman’ and ‘The Appraisal Fair.’ Hindman returned to the auction business in July 2003.
Other land-based auction houses with data included in the Price It! Antiques and Collectibles database include:
