Thomson Gale Updates ChiltonLibrary.com, Adds Enhanced Functionality to Automobile Repair Database

FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich., Dec. 19, 2006 – Need to know how to change your car’s oil? Or how often should you replace your spark plugs? Thanks to updates Thomson Gale, part of the Thomson Corporation (NYSE: TOC; TSX: TOC), recently made to ChiltonLibrary.com, experienced mechanics, do-it-yourselfers and students in the automotive trades have even faster, easier access to repair, maintenance and service information on today’s most popular automobiles.

The ChiltonLibrary.com online resource serves as a 24-hour, on-call “mechanic” to provide information on numerous automobile makes, including Ford, Chrysler, General Motors, Honda and Toyota. A valid library card and an Internet connection is all that’s required to access ChiltonLibrary.com – patrons can browse this powerful resource from the library or from their home (or garage!), as long as they can connect to the Internet.

With more than 50 years of information on actual auto tear-downs provided in step-by-step procedures, work on the engine, chassis, electrical, drive train and suspension, for example, is made easier with ChiltonLibrary.com’s photos, illustrations and repair procedures.

What’s more, ChiltonLibrary.com has been tuned-up with these new features:

  • Domestic and import vehicle information through the current model year, with updates added monthly
  •
  • Better printability, thanks to smaller content chunks which allow users to print only the information they need
  •
  • Clearer navigation, using alphabetically arranged, consistent headings
  •
  • Individual tabs for repair, maintenance or recall/technical service bulletins
  •
  • Explanation of trouble codes to help users easily identify the problem with their vehicle (today's automobiles’ computerized systems provide trouble codes but do not explain what the code means)
