Thomson Gale Titles Named to Editor’s Choice, Outstanding Titles Lists; Databases Selected as CODiE Finalists
FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich., Jan. 19, 2007 - Three Thomson Gale print titles and three Thomson Gale databases have been recognized with industry honors. Thomson Gale is part of Thomson Learning.
Thomson Gale's Encyclopedia of Philosophy and Encyclopedia of Science, Technology, and Ethics have been named to CHOICE magazine's Outstanding Academic Titles list for 2006. This prestigious list reflects the best 10% of the 7,000 scholarly works reviewed by CHOICE each year.
In awarding Outstanding Academic Titles, CHOICE editors apply several criteria to reviewed titles:
- overall excellence in presentation and scholarship;
- importance relative to other literature in the field;
- distinction as a first treatment of a given subject in book or electronic form;
- originality or uniqueness of treatment;
- value to undergraduate students; and
- importance in building undergraduate library collections.
Thomson Gale's American History Through Literature, 1820-1870; American History Through Literature, 1870-1920; and Encyclopedia of Philosophy have been named to Booklist magazine's Editors' Choice list. Each year, the editors of Booklist select the titles they feel are the most outstanding of that year and include them on this elite list.
Additionally, three Thomson Gale databases - ClassTrac, Opposing Viewpoints Resource Centerand Science Resource Center - are finalists for the Software & Information Industry Association's 22nd Annual CODiE Awards. The CODiE Awards celebrate achievement and vision in software, education technology and digital content and are the only-peer reviewed honor in the industry. Winners will be announced on April 17, 2007.
