New Edition of The Gale Encyclopedia of Science Explores the Latest in Technology

Fourth Edition Fills Gap for Science Materials

FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich., December  18, 2007 – Gale,  part of Cengage Learning, announces the release of The Gale Encyclopedia of Science, Fourth Edition, which fills the gap for science materials  written at a level between the highly technical and introductory sources  currently available. This six-volume  set covers all major areas of science, engineering, technology, as well as  mathematics and the medical and health sciences, while providing a  comprehensive overview of current scientific knowledge and technology.

"As Gale's core high school science offering, the Encyclopedia covers all major areas of  science, including life science, space and Earth science, physical science, science  and technology and more.  It also aligns  with national science standards and high school science curriculums," said  Janet Witalec, product manager at Gale.   "This edition has been completely updated and includes more than 75 new  entries covering the most current developments in science and technology."

Consisting of alphabetically arranged entries, the Encyclopedia provides a user-friendly  format that makes the broad scope of information easy to access and understand.  Entries typically describe scientific  concepts', provide overviews of scientific subjects; and define terms.  New entries in the fourth edition include key  scientific topics in the news such as the Avian Flu, Decontamination Methods, DNA  databanks, Crime Scene Investigations, Internet Search Engines, Podcasts,  Weapons of Mass Destruction, Wireless Communication, Hybrid Transportation and  more.
